How a parenting plan works
This page explains how a parenting plan works at DoUsParent. The process is built so parents are not left to guess which form to file.
- 1
Answer the questions.
Start with a short set of questions so we can see whether an agreed parenting plan is the right fit. - 2
We prepare your documents.
If you move forward, we prepare the parenting plan and the required court documents from the options you selected. Those options were reviewed by a licensed Montana attorney when the service was built. The completed set is sent to the firm before you sign. - 3
Review and sign.
Both parents review the plan. When you are ready, the documents are signed with a remote notary. - 4
We file and finish.
We file the case, cover the court filing fee, and route the order for the judge’s signature. A hearing is needed only if the court requires one.
What parents should know before starting
| Topic | How it Works |
|---|---|
| Agreement | Both parents have to agree. |
| Residency | Only one parent needs to meet Montana residency requirements. |
| Who we represent | Only the parent who hires us. |
| Filing | We file the documents. Parents do not file the case themselves. |
| Hearing | Only if the court requires one. |
| Timing | Depends on how quickly both parents answer and sign, then on the court. |
How long it takes
The first part of the timeline is in your control. It depends on how quickly both parents answer questions, review the draft, and sign. After filing, timing depends on the court. We do not promise a set number of days.
After you start
The website and questionnaire will ask for the information needed to prepare the documents. Have basic facts ready: children’s names and birthdates, the current schedule if you have one, school and activity information, and how you want holidays to work.
