Who this is for
DoUsParent is for unmarried parents who need a written parenting plan. You do not have to be in a high-conflict situation. Many parents put a plan in place while they can still work together.
This service is a good fit if you:
- Are not married and share a child
- Can agree on the main terms, or are close enough to finish an agreement
- Want a legally recognized plan without becoming your own court clerk
- Want attorney review, notarization, and filing included
Only one parent needs to meet Montana residency requirements. We represent only the parent who hires us. The other parent may review and sign the plan, or hire a separate attorney.
If you are married and need a divorce, that is a different process. Visit DoUsPart Divorce for agreed divorce services.
What a parenting plan includes
A parenting plan is the written agreement that explains how unmarried parents will raise their children in two homes. In Montana, courts focus on parenting time, decision-making, and the child’s best interest.
Most plans cover:
- The regular parenting schedule
- Holidays, birthdays, and school breaks
- How major decisions will be made
- How parents will communicate
- Exchanges and transportation
- What happens if a parent relocates
- Child support, when it applies
The point is not to write a perfect family story. The point is to reduce confusion later.
What this service is not
DoUsParent is not a contested custody case. If one parent will not participate, or the two of you cannot agree, this process will not work. A different court path would be needed.
We also do not give legal advice to the parent who is not our client.
Why parents use DoUsParent
Montana courts provide free forms. Some websites sell documents at a low starting price. A traditional attorney can handle the whole matter. DoUsParent sits in the middle: guided questions, documents built from attorney-reviewed options, remote notarization, the filing fee, and filing included for a flat fee.
